Managing Your Subscription Via the Web

From each list's web interface at Food-Lists.com or Cooking-Lists.com, you can view general information about the list, read the archives if you are a member, and manage your subscription.

You will work with two main screens: the list's main page and your list membership configuration page.

The List's Main Page

Access any list's main page from the menu below. [NOTE: All lists are accessible from this jump menu, including the ones still currently hosted at YahooGroups.]:

Each list's main page contains a basic description of the list, a link to the archives, and the list address, as well as subscription information.

Below the subscription information on all Food-Lists.com or Cooking-Lists.com list pages, you can access your list options by entering your subscribed address and pressing the *Unsubscribe or Edit Options* button.

You will then be taken to the gateway to your membership configuration page. At this point, you can either log in with your list password to gain access to all your option configurations, unsubscribe, or have a password reminder sent to you if you need it.

With your password in hand...enter it in the Password box near the top of the page, and press the *Log In* button to be taken to...

Your Membership Configuration Page

From this page you have full control over your subscription...so long as you remember your password (and you can get your password sent to you from this page if you don't!).

Let's work down the page...

After you've done the work you need to do on this page, you can *Log Out* at the top.

You can change your e-mail address by entering a new one under Changing Your List Membership Information. You must confirm this new address via e-mail for the change to take place.

You can unsubscribe from the list by pressing *Unsubscribe*. If you want to unsubscribe without having an e-mail confirmation sent to you, check the *Yes, I really want to unsubscribe* box...and you will be unsubscribed immediately

You can call up a list of your option pages for your other subscriptions on Food-Lists.com or Cooking-Lists.com by pressing *List my other subscriptions* button.

If you've forgotten your password (and it is necessary to do everything you want to do with your subscription!)...you can have it sent to you by pressing *Email My Password To Me*.

You can change your password by entering your old and new ones...and pressing *Change My Password*.

You can alter your subscription several ways by ticking the appropriate radio buttons...and pressing Submit My Changes. The buttons that are already marked...are the current values for your list subscription.

Let's go into more detail about your Subscription Options....

These values are mostly straightforward.

MAIL DELIVERY: Choose ENABLED if you want to receive list messages; choose disabled to set yourself no-mail.

SET DIGEST MODE: Choose ON if you want to receive list messages in digest format (a large collection of the lists posts, sent daily or when a certain digest size has been hit). Choose OFF if you want to receive the list as single messages as they come in.

GET MIME OR PLAIN TEXT DIGESTS?: You only need to worry about this set of radio buttons IF you have chosen the digest mode above. Set to MIME if your e-mail client is mime-compliant (this will allow you to respond easily to individual messages within a digest). Set to Plain Text if your e-mail client is NOT mime-compliant...or you simply prefer smaller digests.

RECEIVE YOUR OWN POSTS TO THE LIST?: Choose YES if you want to receive your own posts back through the e-mail list. Choose NO if you don't want to receive your own posts.

RECEIVE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT MAIL WHEN YOU SEND MAIL TO THE LIST? If you choose NO above, choose YES here to receive confirmation that your message was indeed sent to the list.

GET PASSWORD REMINDER EMAIL FOR THIS LIST? The listowner can opt to send out monthly password reminders. I won't be doing this on the Food-Lists.com lists, but will be doing it on the Cooking-Lists.com lists. You can choose whether or not you get the reminder for this list...but will only receive it if I enable the option for the list.

AVOID DUPLICATE COPIES OF MESSAGES? If your e-mail address is specifically in the To: or CC: of any list message (which is unlikely), you can choose to not have the list message, for that message, sent to you.

Managing Your Subscription Via Email

Your subscription to any list can be easily handled via e-mail.

The key to success is remembering the password issued to you (or you chose) when you subscribed to the list.

This was sent to you in your Welcome Letter and is sent every month in a reminder entitled *cooking-lists.com mailing list memberships reminder*. (NOTE: List's hosted on Food-Lists.com may not have a monthly reminder sent out.)

You can also have the password sent to you by following the directions above.

With password in hand, you can access all sorts of list features.

Remember, send the message from your subscribed address.

Send all commands to the list's request address:

Single line commands can be sent in either the subject or message body. For the best results, send Unsubsribe commands in the subject.

If the command requires 2 lines, you must send it in the body of the e-mail (and make sure that HTML or rich text is turned off...or the server will not recognize your commands).

Here are the command options you'll most likely want to use (and remember, use your real PASSWORD, not the placeholder word below!):

To unsubscribe from the list, send this command line:

unsubscribe

(PLEASE NOTE: only subbing and unsubbing do not require a password. Changing all other list options requires use of your list password.)

To temporarily hold mail delivery:

set authenticate PASSWORD
set delivery off

When you want to receive mail again, send this to the list's request address:

set authenticate PASSWORD
set delivery on

To switch your subscription between single messages and digest, send this:

set authenticate PASSWORD
set digest plain

To switch your subscription between digest and single messages, send this:

set authenticate PASSWORD
set digest off

You can find out what your list options are set to by sending the command SET SHOW to the list's request address.

You can get a list of all the commands available to you via e-mail by sending an e-mail to the list's request address with HELP in the body or subject.
